Your First Appointment With a New Hair Stylist: What to Expect

Trying a new hair stylist can feel like a big step. Maybe you’ve moved to Campbell River, your old stylist retired, or you’re just ready for a change. Whatever brought you here, your first appointment should feel easy, not stressful.

Here’s what to expect when you sit in the chair at Envy Beauty Den, and a few simple ways to make sure you leave with hair you love. Start With a Conversation

Your first visit begins with a consultation. Before anything is cut or coloured, your stylist will ask about:

• What you love and don’t love about your hair right now

• Your daily routine and how much time you spend styling

• Past colour, lightener, keratin or other chemical services

• Any scalp sensitivities or allergies

• The look you’re hoping for

There are no wrong answers. The more your stylist knows, the better your results will be. Bring Photos (Including What You Don’t Like)

Words like “warm,” “short” or “a little lighter” mean different things to different people. Photos take the guesswork out.

Save two or three pictures of hair you love, and one or two you don’t. Photos of your own hair from a time you loved it are just as helpful. Your stylist will be honest about what will work with your hair type, texture and lifestyle, and how to get there. Our stylists can also show you what a realistic goal will be, and how many sessions it might take to get there. We can't compete with AI, but we will do our best to get you where you want to be without compromising your hairs health. Be Honest About Your Hair History

Box dye from last year, a home lightening attempt, or regular heat styling all affect how your hair responds to new services. Sharing your hair history helps your stylist choose the right products and protect the health of your hair. Nothing you share will surprise us. We've seen it all. We've probably even done it too. Come As You Normally Wear Your Hair

If you can, arrive with your hair styled the way you usually wear it. It shows your stylist your natural texture, how your hair falls, and how you style it day to day. For colour services, there’s no need to wash your hair right before your visit unless your stylist asks you to. Plan a Little Extra Time

First appointments often take a bit longer than future visits. That extra time is for the consultation, questions and, for colour clients, any patch or strand testing your stylist recommends. Give yourself room so you can relax and enjoy it. We'll show you why our Salon is different. Talk About Upkeep and Budget

A great hairstyle should fit your life. Let your stylist know how often you’d like to come in and what feels comfortable to spend. They can suggest options, like a softer grow-out or a lower-maintenance colour, that still give you the look you want. Leave With a Plan

Before you go, your stylist will walk you through:

• How to style your hair at home

• Which products will help your hair look its best between visits

• When to book your next appointment

Many clients book their next visit before they leave so they get the day and time that works for them. Speak Up During and After

If something doesn’t feel right during your appointment, say so. Your stylist wants to know. And if anything comes up in the days after your visit, reach out. We would always rather fix it than have you feel unsure about your hair. Ready to Meet Your New Stylist?
