Why does my skin look different in the Fall?
Every September we hear the same thing in the treatment room: "My skin looks weird lately. It's not breaking out, it's not the same - it looks and feels different." That different has an explanation. A couple, actually.
1. Sun damage is finally showing up
Skin doesn't reveal pigment changes in real time. UV exposure from June to August often surfaces in September as new sunspots, deepened melasma, or a general uneven tone. This isn't your skin getting worse - it's showing you what actually happened all summer.
Fix it: Vitamin C in the morning morning, SPF every day (yes, still), and a professional treatment with mild exfoliation to accelerate pigment turnover.
2. The barrier is quietly weakened
Between chlorine, salt water, sunscreen, hot showers after the beach, and months of humidity, your skin barrier has been running on empty. In fall, the drop in outdoor humidity magnifies the problem, so skin feels tighter, drier, and rougher - even in oily types.
Fix it: Cut back on active ingredients (retinol, glycolic, salicylic) for two weeks. Swap in ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and a heavier moisturizer at night. Skip the foaming cleanser.
3. Blood flow to the surface changes
As temperatures drop, blood flow shifts. This is why some people see more redness in fall and others look duller. Facial massage - either at home or professionally during a treatment - restores healthy circulation.
The fastest way to reset
Combine an at-home routine tweak with a single Fall Reset Hydrafacial. The facial gives you 4–6 weeks of accelerated results, and the routine change maintains them.
